Wine & Spirits, Insured the Way Collectors Actually Own Them.
Your coverage should be as considered as your cellar.

You've allocated for DRC. You've tracked a bottle of Pappy 23 across three secondary markets. You understand that storage conditions aren't a suggestion, they're the difference between a trophy lot and a very expensive vinegar. You know that an original wooden case and fill level matter, that cork condition on a 1970s Burgundy tells a story, and that the phrase "provenance-perfect" means something specific and non-negotiable. WAX Collect was built for collectors who approach their cellar with the same rigor they'd apply to any serious investment, and want their insurance to reflect it.
The estate, bottled
WAX Collect covers theft, accidental damage, fire, flooding, worldwide travel, and pets. In a wine and spirits collection, accidental damage and flooding deserve special attention, a single flood event in an improperly secured cellar, or a temperature spike from a power outage, can devastate holdings it took years to build. Fire is obvious. Theft is common enough in high-end cellars that it warrants the first line of any serious policy.
Pets are covered too, though we suspect that if a labrador has worked its way into your cellar, you have larger problems than the insurance claim.
Lever one, your vinification choices
Two optional coverages, each independently toggleable. Build the policy that matches how you actually collect, not how an insurer assumes you collect.
Checked Baggage Coverage
Extends protection to airline baggage handling. If you never check wine or spirits, and the correct answer is a definitive never, easy remove and an immediate premium reduction. If you occasionally travel with bottles from private cellars or attend international tastings where you transport your own selections, it's relevant.
Unattended Auto Coverage
Protects bottles left in an unattended vehicle. Temperature exposure is a separate conversation, but theft is real, and if you're transporting bottles to events, buyers, or from storage to home, this coverage matters. Toggle based on actual transport patterns.
Want Mysterious Disappearance? It's included as standard on WAX Classic™.
Lever two: First growth vs. table wine pricing
Traditional insurers apply the same fixed 150% payout structure to every collection, as if a 2013 Petrus and a case of 2019 Côtes du Rhône present the same appreciation profile. They don't, and you know it better than anyone.
WAX Flex™ lets you calibrate:
100%. Agreed value, paid in full. Right for collections where the value is stable, well-documented, and appreciation isn't the primary collecting logic. A cellar stocked for drinking, not for holding.
125%. Up to 125% above agreed value. Subject to the class limit. Smart for collections with documented appreciation trajectories, cult California producers, Burgundy producers gaining international critical recognition, Japanese whisky in expressions with constrained production and growing global demand.
150%. Full market appreciation protection. For First Growths, DRC holdings, Pappy 20 and 23, mature Burgundy from recognized appellations in great vintages, rare Japanese single malts where secondary market pricing has tripled since acquisition, and Scotch collected before the current wave of international demand rewrote what old Highland and Islay stock is actually worth.
Your Romanée-Conti isn't the same insurance conversation as your case of weekend Beaujolais. WAX Flex™ finally acknowledges that math.
Lever three, the pairing that works
Wine and spirits collectors frequently collect adjacent things. Art, watches, rare books, jewelry. The collector who has built a serious cellar alongside a serious watch collection isn't two policyholders. WAX Flex™ treats them accordingly.
One category: base rate. Two: automatic discount. Three: greater automatic discount. Real time. No calls. No negotiations.
The tasting notes on your coverage
- Agreed value, guaranteed. Documented through auction comps (Hart Davis Hart, Acker, Sotheby's Wine, Christie's), professional appraisals, and inventory records. At total loss, you receive that value, not a generalist estimate.
- $0 deductible in most U.S. states. Discovering your cellar has flooded is already the nightmare scenario.
- 90 days of newly acquired coverage. Won a case of 2009 La Mondotte at auction? Covered automatically for 90 days. The cellar doesn't wait for paperwork.
- Worldwide coverage. Storage in Napa, Geneva, or London. Bottles traveling to and from international tastings.
- Claims via the WAX app, handled by people who understand the category.
- AM Best A+ (Superior) rated carrier partners with deep specialty experience and a history of saying yes.
You've made serious decisions to build a serious collection. You've studied the vintages, tracked the producers, made the calls. Your coverage should match.
